What is a "Ring?"

A "ring" on the Internet is a group of web sites of like subject matter that are linked together ("birds of a feather"). Members of a ring have easy access to other members of the same ring through a link setup on each site.

Why join the ring?

The primary reason is to help us to unite the body in a manner where we can easily be found. Search engines can at times provide a means to find Wesleyan Churches. But they're not very reliable. As ring membership grows, if someone stumbles onto one of the Wesleyan WebRing sites they'll then have easy access to all the districts and churches which are also on the ring.

There are two methods using the WesRing that make it easy to find your site:

  1. The WesRing system keeps a list of all the sites on the ring. To access the list click on "List Sites" from the WesRing graphic, which is available on every site on the WesRing. Being involved in this system will include your site in the data base, making it easier for you to be found.
  2. The ring also provides a simple and quick way for you to go from site to site. Just click on "next" or one of the other options included with the WesRing graphic and you'll be taken to another site on the system! You can go from site to site just by using the WesRing graphic that is on each one.

For web authors, being on the Wesleyan WebRing can help you to keep track of what the other Wesleyan web authors are doing to communicate the gospel through their web sites. We're here to immerse the nations into the very person of God. As we learn and grow together I've found it to be a great aid as a web author to be able to see what others within my denomination are doing. This way we together can learn to better communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ and experiential holiness so that all may come to a living knowledge of our precious Savior.

How expensive is it?

There is no fee for the web ring service, or for using it.

Who can join the
Wesleyan District and Church WebRing?

The Wesleyan WebRing is for Wesleyan District and Church web sites. Individuals who are involved in other ministries for the Wesleyan Church, such as evangelists, etc., are also welcome to join.

What do I have to put on my web site?

Following are examples of three WebRing links that are currently available. You can pick your choice, or if you're an Internet genius you're free to design your own look. If you pull the HTML code off of this page, please be sure to change the id number to your site number. (Code for all three options specifically personalized to the information you place in the queue form will be emailed to you. You can cut and paste it into your site without having to make any modifications.)

Rules for where to place the WebRing

The ring is of no value if the ring links can't be found. Few people will go digging for it. We try to keep to the following rules in order of preference as listed.

  1. Ring should be on front page. I receive complaints from individuals if they can't easily find the WesRing links. If you absolutely can't put it on the front page please be courteous and include on the front page a mini version, something like:

    [ Previous | WesRing | Next ]

  2. If that isn't possible then please set up your ring so individuals are taken directly to the page with the WesRing on it.
  3. If that isn't possible please include on the front page a link going directly to the page with the ring graphic, such as: | WesRing |

You will not be allowed into the WesRing unless one of the above three conditions are met.

As soon as you have your WebRing HTML code installed on your web site, drop a note either to support@wesleyan.net or Glen Lee Edwards, and your site will then be formally added to the ring!
