THE PLAN OF SALVATION
THE PROBLEM
1. SIN-WHAT IS IT?

Psa 51:4 (NIV) Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.

James 4:17 (NIV) Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

2. WHO SINS?

Rom 3:23 (NIV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

3. THE RESULT OF SIN

A. STRAY FROM GOD

1 John 1:5 (NIV) This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

1 John 1:6 (NIV) If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we
lie and do not live by the truth.

B. WE BECOME SLAVES TO SIN

Gal 5:19 (NIV) The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

Gal 5:20 (NIV) idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

Gal 5:21 (NIV) and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

C. SPIRITUAL DEATH

Rom 6:23 (NIV) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

4. WE CANNOT "REMEDY" THIS CONDITION

Eph 2:8 (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--
Eph 2:9 (NIV) not by works, so that no one can boast.

THE SOLUTION

1. GOD'S PLAN

John 3:16 (NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 10:10 (NIV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

2. GOD'S REMEDY: THE CROSS

Rom 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Eph 1:7 (NIV) In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace

1 Pet 3:18 (NIV) For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

THE RESPONSE AND RESULT

1. OUR RESPONSE

John 1:12 (NIV) Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--

Rom 10:9 (NIV) That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Rev 3:20 (NIV) Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

2. THE RESULT

John 5:24 (NIV) "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

3. THE PROMISE AND ASSURANCE
1 John 5:11 (NIV) And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

1 John 5:12 (NIV) He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1 John 5:13 (NIV) I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
